DUMAY GORHAM, III

A native of Wilmington, NC, Dumay Gorham, III, graduated from New Hanover
High School in 1987. He attended North Carolina State University where he received a bachelor of arts in English. He went on to earn a degree in Industrial Design Technology from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh.

After a brief return to Wilmington, Gorham relocated to Atlanta to accept an offer with A.W.A., a design firm focused on prototype
development and production models. As a product design consultant, he worked on projects for the Coca-Cola Co.

Dumay returned to Wilmington in 1998 and joined Mark Made, Inc.as an assistant fabricator building displays and decorations for large retailers including Armani,Chanel, Calvin Klein, Bloomingdales, and Saks 5th Ave. Gorham then worked for Truelove Fabrications, Inc. as a model maker on projects for The North Carolina Aquarium in Manteo, N.C.

Dumay left the work force in 2000 to be a stay-at-home dad. He received his own welding equipment for Christmas that year and began experimenting with metal sculpture. He has since turned his hobby into a full-time occupation. Dumay specializes in custom metal designs and fabrication. He works in copper, brass, steel, and stainless steel as well as fiberglass and urethanes.

In addition to being shown in local art shows, Gorham's metal sculptures appear in businesses throughout the Wilmington area. He completed wall installation versions of business logos for Copy Cat Print Shop and Ford Design Co. He has also completed commissioned sculptures for The North Carolina Aquarium in Ft. Fisher, The New Hanover County arboretum, The UNC-W Center for Marine Science, The City of Wilmington, N.C., and many private homes and gardens throughout the area.

In addition to designing sculptures and installation art, Gorham has also designed and built metal furniture for The Blockade Runner Hotel and Resort in Wrightsville Beach, N.C. and Jeff Gordon Chevrolet in Wilmington, N.C.
